The UNBS Act requires that “No person shall import, distribute, manufacture, sell or have in his possession or control for sale or distribution any commodity for which a compulsory standard specification has been declared
unless such commodity conforms to the compulsory standard specification”.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry & Cooperatives through Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) are taking measures to address the quality of imported goods through a programme referred to as PRE-EXPORT VERIFICATION
OF CONFORMITY TO STANDARDS (PVOC). This programme requires that all goods falling under Uganda Compulsory standards are inspected in the country of origin by Government of Uganda contracted international inspection agents. These are goods that endanger the public health, safety and/or the environment.
